Software Engineer II (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Provo, Utah, with Seattle/Provo listed in the position title

Salary: $65,000–$85,000 base salary per year, plus a discretionary bonus or commission and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop, test, refactor, and maintain backend software features and modules for the AI-enabled Hyperlift Stars Platform.
• Implement APIs, database schemas, and backend services using programming languages and frameworks such as Elixir/Phoenix and Python/Flask.
• Own features through requirements gathering, implementation, testing, deployment, release support, and long-term maintenance.
• Write unit, integration, and system-level tests and use observability tools and AI-assisted techniques to debug issues.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, documentation, and collaboration with engineering, product, and technical leadership.
• Support microservices, deployments, troubleshooting, and iterative delivery within an Agile development process.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional experience in backend software development and the ability to deliver reliable features under guidance from senior engineers.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages and frameworks; Elixir/Phoenix and/or Python/Flask are preferred.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, plus REST APIs, data modeling, and backend systems design.
• Familiarity with Azure or AWS, containerized applications, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, collaboration, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
