Software Engineer III (AI)

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: USD $107,700–$285,900 per year, with certain roles eligible for benefits, annual bonus, and stock.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain backend services and APIs connecting Copilot experiences to AI model providers.
• Own features end to end, including technical design, operational readiness, safe rollout, measurement, and follow-up.
• Integrate new models and provider capabilities while managing compatibility, capacity, failure modes, availability, and fallback behavior.
• Improve latency, throughput, capacity efficiency, resilience, and high-availability behavior using production data.
• Build automated tests, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, diagnostics, and progressive delivery safeguards.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, on-call rotations, incident response, and cross-functional delivery with product, safety, infrastructure, lifecycle, and provider partners.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering, computer science, or related technical experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Proven production software development experience with languages such as C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Experience applying software design principles to build maintainable and testable systems.
• Experience with relational databases and NoSQL data stores, including data-modeling and access-pattern tradeoffs.
• Experience with cloud-native services, containers, Kubernetes, or managed cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with observability, reliability engineering, AI or large language model inference systems, model APIs, or provider integrations.

Nice to have

• Experience with canary releases, feature flags, progressive delivery, or other safe rollout practices.
• Experience improving latency, capacity, resilience, or incident response for production services.
