Senior Java Backend Engineer - Kafka & Streaming

Location: Algés or Maia, Portugal; remote work option available.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate data streaming services end to end.
• Develop and improve analytics and streaming applications based on real-time parcel sorting data using Kafka Streams and related technologies.
• Build data integration components, including adapters and connectors for additional data sources.
• Create and maintain Grafana visualizations and dashboards.
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of production streaming systems.
• Collaborate with Product Management, R&D, system architecture, machine control, operations, and integration teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field.
• Strong production-level Java programming experience.
• Solid understanding of stream processing and Kafka Streams or similar frameworks.
• Experience building and maintaining distributed systems and data pipelines.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.
• Working knowledge of Groovy or a similar JVM-based scripting language, plus Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
