Senior Java Backend Engineer – Data Processing Platform

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; hybrid work model. Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the European Union.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize Java backend components for large-scale data processing applications.
• Design and implement scalable batch processing solutions using Apache Spark.
• Collaborate on solution architecture, performance standards, and backend API design.
• Integrate Docker and Kubernetes deployments into CI/CD pipelines.
• Support the migration and integration of relational databases and object storage systems.
• Analyze and tune system performance while expanding knowledge of Big Data technologies.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of hands-on Java development experience, including Java 8+.
• Strong backend architecture, API design, and solution architecture skills.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases, including PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools such as Maven, GitLab, ArgoCD, and Liquibase.
• Existing legal right to work in the European Union is required.
• Communicative English is required.

Nice to have

• Experience or willingness to learn Apache Spark and Big Data frameworks.
• Knowledge of Spark SQL, Hadoop, Flink, batch processing workflows, or ETL pipelines.
• French language skills at B2 level.
