TL;DR
Senior Officer, AI Technology Policy (AI Governance): Translating developments in AI technology, governance, regulation, and industry practice into actionable policy analysis for education programs with an accent on AI safety, regulatory frameworks, and technology-sector engagement. Focus on synthesizing uncertain technical and regulatory developments, advising strategy teams, and building relationships across government, academia, civil society, and the technology sector.

Location: Washington, DC office; unrestricted work authorization in the United States required

Salary: $209,100–$324,100 USD annually for the Washington, DC location

What you will do

  • Provide technical expertise on AI safety, governance, regulation, and technology policy across federal, state, national, and international contexts.
  • Monitor emerging governance frameworks, regulatory proposals, industry practices, and their implications for students, educators, institutions, and education policy.
  • Develop analytical products, briefings, and points of view that translate complex technical and regulatory developments into actionable recommendations.
  • Advise program strategy teams on regulatory developments and governance considerations affecting AI-enabled tools and investments.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with technology-sector partners, AI governance organizations, federal agencies, academia, civil society, and government stakeholders.
  • Support the foundation’s participation in AI governance convenings and multistakeholder forums while communicating complex issues to diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Significant experience in technology policy, AI governance, or a closely related field, including expertise in how AI systems are developed, deployed, and governed.
  • Mastery-level knowledge of federal and state regulatory activity, industry self-regulatory frameworks, and emerging international AI standards.
  • Strong analytical, research, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to form clear recommendations under uncertainty.
  • Experience building durable relationships across changing federal administrations and varied state political contexts.
  • Unrestricted work authorization in the United States is required; immigration-related sponsorship is not provided.
