Staff Agentic Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role requiring two days onsite at the Chicago office, 20 S. Wacker

Salary: $125,800–$209,600 per year, plus annual target bonus and equity opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of high-volume, low-latency Java applications on Google Cloud Platform.
• Drive the transition to agentic software engineering by standardizing tools, system prompts, context repositories, and agentic development loops.
• Build shared agent infrastructure, including MCP integrations, codebase indexing pipelines, repository context, and developer tooling.
• Design evaluation harnesses, automated tests, and CI/CD guardrails that identify concurrency bugs, memory leaks, security issues, and performance regressions in AI-generated code.
• Maintain reliable, secure, high-throughput delivery pipelines for production systems.
• Mentor engineers through workshops, code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and adoption of AI-native workflows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining scalable real-time systems, with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Expert proficiency in Java and Spring, including multithreading, lock-free data structures, memory management, thread pools, and race-condition diagnostics.
• Production experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex, Cursor, or Antigravity.
• Deep experience with GCP services, real-time messaging and stream-processing technologies, including GKE, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Dataflow, Kafka, MQ, or Flink.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL, and Python, plus experience with distributed tracing, SLO/SLI monitoring, and chaos engineering.
• Ability to work in a hybrid format with two days onsite in Chicago and participate in on-call support for financially and regulatorily critical systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with financial risk management, high-frequency trading, or clearing systems.
• Experience building internal developer tools, CLI extensions, or custom LLM evaluation harnesses.
• Familiarity with local model deployments or fine-tuning workflows for enterprise development environments.
