Software Engineer (Java/Python)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; four days per week in the office

Salary: $107,525–$139,150 base salary per year, plus potential incentive compensation and long-term equity participation

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable data pipelines, rules engines, and database solutions for regulatory market surveillance.
• Build distributed systems that process and analyze billions of trading events daily across equities, options, and futures markets.
• Optimize low-latency workloads and Snowflake and relational database performance for large-scale data processing.
• Design and maintain agentic workflows using LLMs to automate engineering, software development lifecycle, and surveillance analyst tasks.
• Collaborate with end users, infrastructure teams, and cross-functional stakeholders on requirements, architecture, documentation, troubleshooting, and system enhancements.
• Participate in a 24/7 production on-call rotation and support recruitment of engineering hires.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience with high-performance or distributed systems.
• Strong Java and Python backend development skills, plus experience working in Linux environments and using a scripting language such as Bash or Shell.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and Snowflake for large-scale data processing.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, performance optimization, and scalable low-latency system design.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Kafka and other streaming or big data technologies.
• Experience using Anthropic’s Claude or similar AI coding assistants and building LLM-powered workflows.
• Background in finance, trading, exchanges, or related fields.
