Costs Negotiator (Insurance Litigation)

Location: Liverpool, United Kingdom; hybrid workplace. The role involves attending court, conferences, detailed assessment hearings, and mediations both remotely and in person.

What you will do

• Manage an individual caseload from receipt of papers through resolution of costs.
• Review cases, develop costs strategies and settlement parameters, and assess the strengths and weaknesses of each position.
• Prepare points of dispute, consider replies, handle correspondence, and negotiate settlements by telephone.
• Update clients, conduct file reviews, and meet agreed SLAs, KPIs, MI requirements, and quality standards.
• Instruct counsel and attend conferences, hearings, mediations, and court applications, including conducting own advocacy.
• Delegate work to a Paralegal and support their technical development while complying with SRA Standards & Regulations.

Requirements

• At least 12 months of experience in a similar costs negotiator role, handling an own caseload for either claimants or defendants.
• Degree, LPC, and/or ALCD qualification.
• Experience with client liaison, taking instructions, and providing verbal and written advice.
• Experience with the Detailed Assessment process, including preparing Points of Dispute and considering replies.
• Knowledge of current costs case law and insurance litigation practice and process, with strong telephone negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise under pressure, collaborate effectively, and use Microsoft packages proficiently.
