Senior Software Engineering Manager, Software Platform (DevOps)

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, CA, with on-site work required three days per week. The role requires eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled information under ITAR/EAR regulations.

Salary: $210,000–$234,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, hire, and grow the Software Platform team, initially comprising six engineers.
• Define team goals, technical roadmaps, staffing plans, and platform priorities aligned with company objectives.
• Build and operate CI/CD, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, IAM, data infrastructure, and other internal platform capabilities.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, performance, observability, and operational readiness for production services.
• Establish paved roads and Golden Paths that reduce developer toil and provide self-service workflows.
• Partner with engineering, security, IT, and product teams to translate mission needs into requirements while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineering teams operating production systems.
• Direct management experience with platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and team composition.
• Strong technical background in distributed systems, backend services, or platform development, with hands-on experience in Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS.
• Experience with uptime, reliability, and performance requirements, including SLOs, on-call operations, incident response, and postmortems.
• Experience treating internal platforms as products, with developers as customers, and driving technical direction through a team.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bazel or another large-scale monorepo build system.
• Experience leading data engineering or data platform work.
• Familiarity with Cloudflare, Artifactory, IAM/Okta, InfluxDB, or Grafana.
• Experience partnering with information security teams on IAM, secrets management, and software supply-chain controls.
• Experience in aerospace, satellite operations, or other high-reliability domains.
