Creature Technical Director (Rigging): Developing and maintaining complex character and creature rigs for high-end visual effects and animated features with an accent on Maya-based enveloping and pipeline optimization. Focus on solving technical rigging challenges, mentoring junior artists, and ensuring high-quality performance for both realistic and toon-style animation.

Location: Must be based in or able to work onsite in Vancouver, Canada (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite per week).

Salary: C$100,300–C$128,300 per year.

What you will do

• Perform hero-creature rigging and enveloping within Maya.
• Troubleshoot complex rigging and pipeline issues for the wider production team.
• Mentor entry-level artists and provide technical guidance.
• Develop and maintain scripts, tools, and plug-ins to optimize rig performance.
• Participate in dailies, reviews, and department meetings.

Requirements

• Minimum 3-5 years of professional VFX experience in rigging and enveloping.
• Expertise in Maya and proficiency with Linux.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy and corrective sculpting techniques.
• Experience with both realistic VFX and toon-style animated features.
• Ability to work onsite in Vancouver as required by the hybrid policy.

Nice to have

• Experience with Houdini and simulation shot work.
• Proficiency in Python scripting.
• Basic competency in modeling, texturing, or animation.
