Senior Engineering Manager V&V Media (Voice Media)

Location: Remote in Ireland or the UK; occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

What you will do

• Lead senior engineers developing the next-generation media processing stack for Twilio Voice.
• Define technical architecture for low-latency, high-throughput systems processing billions of media streams.
• Set technical roadmaps with product, platform, and engineering teams.
• Establish code quality, testing, operational reliability, and service performance standards.
• Mentor engineers and provide guidance on complex real-time media processing challenges.
• Balance technical debt reduction with feature delivery while maintaining reliability targets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering management experience leading teams that build distributed systems.
• Understanding of Voice/VoIP infrastructure and media handling challenges.
• Strong experience architecting, building, and operating reliable backend services at scale under strict SLOs.
• Deep knowledge of systems design, microservice architecture, cloud infrastructure, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
• Experience with real-time communications, media processing, streaming technologies, or related fields.
• Experience improving developer velocity with AI tools and communicating complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with SIP, RTP/RTCP, media codecs, transcoding, packet loss concealment, or audio processing.
• Background building low-latency, globally distributed systems.
• Experience with Rust, Java, C/C++, Asterisk, or GStreamer.
• Experience building Voice AI products or working in telecommunications and communications platforms.
• Knowledge of AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.
