Engineering Manager (Energy)

Location: London, United Kingdom; remote-first working model. Work abroad is permitted for up to three weeks, twice per tax year.

What you will do

• Co-lead an autonomous energy squad with a Product Manager in a cross-functional environment with UX and Data.
• Own technical decisions, design discussions, architecture validation, and alignment with engineering strategy.
• Set squad objectives and OKRs, prioritise work, manage risks, and improve delivery predictability.
• Drive security, service-level objectives, on-call coverage, operational metrics, and service performance.
• Hire, onboard, coach, develop, and support engineers through performance and promotion processes.
• Represent the squad to stakeholders and senior leadership while fostering a healthy team culture.

Requirements

• Experience managing a team of engineers and coaching direct reports.
• Knowledge of gRPC, GraphQL, React, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes; Go is preferred.
• Experience leading technical design, evaluating trade-offs, documenting decisions, and validating architecture against edge cases.
• Experience setting goals with Product Managers, driving prioritisation, identifying risks, and co-leading annual and quarterly planning.
• Experience with security practices, SLOs, operational excellence, metrics reviews, and complex legacy migrations.
• Experience working in complex, multi-variant domains such as billing, pricing, identity, or claims, with hands-on use of AI development tools.
