TL;DR
Lead Test Engineer (QA) (Mobile Core Networks): Planning and delivering full-lifecycle integration, acceptance, and validation testing for mobile network platforms and services with an accent on packet core nodes, 2G/4G/5G technologies, and signalling protocols. Focus on analysing low-level traces, coordinating defect investigations, expanding test automation, and ensuring reliable lab and live-environment releases.
Location: London or Bristol, United Kingdom; hybrid work with office attendance three days per week and occasional travel to Borehamwood

What you will do
- Plan and oversee full-lifecycle platform and integration testing for complex products and solution deliveries.
- Verify new and modified mobile core platforms and services in lab and live environments before operational handover.
- Analyse low-level traces, troubleshoot defects, and coordinate technical investigations through resolution.
- Define testing scopes from requirements and supplier release notes, prioritise test cases, and maintain detailed Jira test cases and progress reporting.
- Work with test automation, environment, data, support, and supplier teams to improve test coverage, environments, and delivery efficiency.
- Provide technical documentation, training, and coaching to test teams, including junior members.
Requirements
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience working with packet core nodes.
- Working knowledge of mobile communications, including 2G, 4G, 5G, 5G Standalone, end-to-end flows, and interfaces.
- Experience with integration and acceptance testing of mobile core platforms and end-to-end testing of voice, SMS, MMS, and data services.
- Knowledge of core network elements including PGW, SGW, MME, SGSN, and ePDG.
- Knowledge of signalling protocols including SIP, Diameter, ISUP, MAP, and 3GPP standards.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and coordinate investigations under time, cost, and quality constraints.
Nice to have
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, GitLab, Wireshark, Netscout, or Ericsson CNOM.
- Experience delivering in Agile and Waterfall environments.
- Experience with test automation, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation frameworks such as Segron, Perfecto, or Landslide.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies including Kubernetes, EMS, VNF, or NFVI.
