Chief of Staff, Director of Legal Operations (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States

Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 for candidates in New York City and San Francisco; $150,000–$220,000 for other US-based team members, plus annual bonus potential, equity participation, and benefits.

What you will do

• Partner with the Chief Legal Officer and leadership team on long-term strategy, OKRs, operational planning, roadmaps, and cross-functional coordination.
• Lead and develop the Legal Operations function, including team management, global budget ownership, forecasting, accruals, and vendor strategy.
• Own the legal technology stack, including contract lifecycle management, e-billing, litigation tools, intake, and triage systems.
• Build performance frameworks, automated dashboards, and real-time reporting for the CLO and executive leadership.
• Act as a strategic liaison across Finance, GTM, Customer Success, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and IT.
• Identify and implement AI tools and workflows that improve the quality, speed, and scalability of legal and operational work.

Requirements

• Experience leading or building a Legal Operations function, including budget management and operational strategy.
• 10+ years of experience in Legal Operations, strategy, business operations, or a similarly broad operational role.
• Experience working closely with a Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel, or senior legal executive in a growth-stage technology company.
• Hands-on experience with outside counsel strategy, legal technology ownership, metrics, financial modeling, and executive communications.
• Experience using AI tools to improve legal and operational work.
• Ability to prioritize under pressure, operate in ambiguity, and coordinate complex cross-functional initiatives.

Nice to have

• Experience spanning legal or compliance depth and operational breadth.
• Background in Strategic Operations, Business Operations, or Corporate Development.
• Experience in open-source, AI, or data-intensive technology companies.
• Active participation in Legal Operations or related professional communities.
• Demonstrated experience applying AI to increase the impact of a lean legal organization.
