AI Learning Designer (Math)

Location: San Francisco, CA; in-person work in the San Francisco office at least 3 days per week

What you will do

• Design and build AI-powered elementary math lessons that combine strong pedagogy with engaging learner experiences.
• Evaluate AI tutor outputs for instructional effectiveness and developmental appropriateness.
• Shape prompts and refine AI tutor behavior so it teaches mathematics like an expert human tutor.
• Collaborate with curriculum, product, design, engineering, and AI research teams to develop math learning experiences.
• Test, iterate, and evaluate AI-driven instruction while significantly expanding the library of math activities.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in math education, curriculum design, or learning science, especially in early elementary or elementary mathematics.
• Strong technical foundation in computer science, artificial intelligence, educational technology, or technology-enabled learning products.
• Daily use of LLMs and other generative AI tools, with a clear understanding of how they affect work practices.
• Ability to communicate fluently with engineers and product teams and translate instructional ideas into AI-powered learning experiences.
• Ability to ramp up quickly, work independently with ambiguous direction, and maintain a high output standard.

Nice to have

• Background in computer science, software engineering, data science, or a related technical field.
• Experience designing AI-assisted educational experiences or building edtech and digital learning products.
• Familiarity with research-based math instruction, including number sense, visual representations, and productive struggle.
• Portfolio demonstrating curriculum or product work.
