TL;DR

Propulsion Architecture Energy & Performance Engineer (Automotive): Applying advanced analysis and simulation tools to support propulsion system architecture development with an accent on optimizing vehicle energy consumption and performance. Focus on designing, evaluating, and refining propulsion concepts for ICE, HEV, and BEV configurations to meet program requirements.

Location: Must be based in Warren, Michigan (Hybrid)

What you will do

  • Lead analysis and simulation to define propulsion system and component requirements for energy and performance targets.
  • Quantify the effects of advanced propulsion technologies on vehicle energy consumption, performance, and drivability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop balanced requirements for various propulsion configurations.
  • Lead a small team of global analysis engineers to ensure project deliverables meet virtual analysis timelines.
  • Conduct trade studies to evaluate design alternatives and present analytical results to leadership.
  • Develop new analytical methodologies and standard work procedures.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion engineering.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience with industry-standard simulation tools such as AMEsim, GT Suite, or Unified Model (Verde).
  • Must be authorized to work in the US; GM does not provide immigration sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Warren, Michigan at least 3 times a week.

Nice to have

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in testing, development, and calibration related to energy consumption.
  • Background in powertrain or vehicle controls.
  • Knowledge of applied optimization and design of experiments.
