Propulsion Architecture Energy & Performance Engineer (Automotive): Developing and evaluating propulsion system architectures through advanced simulation to optimize vehicle energy consumption, EV range, fuel economy, performance, and drivability with an accent on ICE, HEV, and BEV systems. Focus on defining system and component requirements, conducting trade studies, developing analytical methodologies, and leading global analysis engineers.
Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with in-office attendance at least 3 times per week

What you will do
- Lead propulsion system analysis and simulation to define system and component requirements for energy, performance, vehicle technical specifications, and regulatory targets.
- Quantify the impact of engine, hybridization, and electrification technologies on energy consumption, performance, and drivability across ICE, HEV, and BEV architectures.
- Evaluate propulsion architectures and technologies, conduct trade studies, and support next-generation system development.
- Collaborate with propulsion performance engineers and component hardware design teams to establish balanced requirements.
- Lead a small global team of analysis engineers and ensure virtual analysis plan deliverables meet program timing.
- Present analytical results to project teams and leadership while developing new analytical methodologies and standard work procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in propulsion engineering.
- Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink.
- Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as AMEsim, GT Suite, Unified Model (Verde), or comparable energy-consumption platforms.
- Knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, engines, transmissions, drive units, electric motors, power electronics, and battery technology.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without GM immigration sponsorship; GM does not provide sponsorship for this role.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in testing, development, and calibration for energy consumption and performance.
- Experience with system analysis, systems engineering methods, powertrain or vehicle controls.
- Knowledge of applied optimization and design of experiments.
