Jig Bore Operator (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Set up and operate DeVlieg and Genevoise jig boring machines to manufacture precision components for tooling, fixtures, gauges, and aerospace applications.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
• Position, align, and secure workpieces, then perform precision boring, drilling, reaming, milling, and manual machine adjustments.
• Conduct first-off and in-process inspections using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision equipment.
• Maintain machines, report defects, keep production and inspection records, and preserve product traceability.
• Collaborate with machining, engineering, quality, and production teams while maintaining housekeeping and safety standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience operating DeVlieg and Genevoise jig boring machines.
• Background in precision machining, toolmaking, or manufacturing.
• Ability to work to tight tolerances and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Competence with precision inspection and measuring equipment.
• Strong problem-solving, fault-finding, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and comply with aerospace quality, manufacturing, health, and safety requirements.

Nice to have

• Apprenticeship or recognised qualification in mechanical engineering, toolmaking, precision engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, defence, or precision tooling industries.
• Experience with AS9100 quality systems, continuous improvement, manual milling, grinding, or other toolroom machinery.
• Overhead crane and lifting equipment experience or certification.
