Mechanical Maintenance Technician (Manufacturing)

Location: On-site at the London Plant Distribution Centre, West Thurrock, London, England. The role follows a days-and-nights shift pattern, including nights and weekends.

Salary: £47,795 per year, plus a £173 weekly shift premium.

What you will do

• Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on automated pallet storage systems, conveyors, layer pickers, lifts, elevators, and related industrial machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical, minor electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults and implement repairs to minimize downtime.
• Install, commission, decommission, inspect, and test machinery and utility systems including HVAC, water, compressed air, and steam.
• Fabricate, assemble, repair, and precision-fit mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
• Document maintenance activities, work orders, repairs, and parts usage while following safety and environmental procedures.
• Collaborate with production teams and engineers, support less experienced colleagues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Experience as a millwright, maintenance fitter, industrial mechanic, or in a similar manufacturing or industrial role.
• Technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, such as NVQ Level 3, ONC, C&G Part 3, or an apprenticeship.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical principles.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals and troubleshoot complex machinery.
• Experience with hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery, with knowledge of industrial health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work on-site across days, nights, weekends, and varied shift patterns.
