TL;DR

Junior Costs Negotiator (Legal): Pursuing the settlement of legal costs for MOD disease claims with an accent on case review, strategy formulation, and negotiation. Focus on managing a caseload from receipt to resolution, conducting advocacy in court hearings, and ensuring compliance with SRA standards.

Location: Hybrid. Must be based in or able to work from the Birmingham or Bolton offices.

What you will do

  • Manage a caseload from paper receipt to the final resolution of costs.
  • Formulate initial costs strategies, set settlement parameters, and prepare points of dispute.
  • Conduct telephone negotiations to put forward meritorious arguments and settle costs.
  • Provide progress reports to clients while adhering to SLAs, KPIs, and MI requirements.
  • Perform advocacy in court for application hearings, detailed assessments, and mediations, both remotely and in person.
  • Delegate tasks to Paralegals and actively support their technical development.

Requirements

  • Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD qualification.
  • Previous experience in a junior costs negotiator role (claimant or defendant) is ideal, though full training is provided.
  • Knowledge of the Detailed Assessment process and relevant CPR provisions relating to costs.
  • Strong telephone negotiation, listening, and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of current cost case law and insurance litigation practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
