What you will do
- Lead complex nuclear fire protection engineering projects from proposal development through execution and closeout.
- Perform and oversee Fire Hazards Analyses (FHAs) for operating nuclear plants, advanced reactors, and DOE facilities.
- Evaluate compliance with NRC regulations, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix R, 10 CFR 50.48, and NFPA 805.
- Conduct technical analyses related to fire area assessments, safe shutdown, circuit analysis, and fire barrier evaluations.
- Develop technical justifications, exemption requests, and licensing basis modifications.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering.
- 8–12 years of progressively responsible experience in nuclear fire protection.
- Minimum 5 years supporting commercial nuclear power plants directly or via consulting.
- Demonstrated expertise with NRC fire protection regulations and licensing requirements.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 805, 10 CFR 50, and NRC Regulatory Guides.
- Ability to participate in plant walkdowns, field assessments, and inspections.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification.
- Experience with Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) or Department of Energy nuclear facilities.
- Familiarity with Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Fire PRA methodologies.
