Senior Regulatory Engineer (IoT)

Location: Tysons, Virginia, United States; employees work from the office four days a week. Travel of approximately 15–25% is required to laboratories, suppliers, manufacturing sites, and conferences.

Base salary: $100,000–$153,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Own the global regulatory and certification strategy for connected security hardware, video products, and cloud-integrated systems.
• Monitor emerging regulations, security mandates, and standards; identify product risks and market-entry opportunities.
• Translate life-safety, wireless, cybersecurity, and environmental standards into product architecture, requirements, and test plans.
• Lead EMC/RF, product-safety, UL life-safety, and carrier certification programs from planning through completion.
• Coordinate with testing laboratories and regulatory bodies including UL, Intertek, FCC, ISED, EU/CE, PTCRB, and Verizon.
• Maintain compliance systems, records, and procedures while advising and mentoring engineers across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of regulatory compliance and hardware product certification experience in smart home, telecom, security, or a related industry.
• Hands-on expertise with life-safety and security standards such as UL 1023, UL 985, UL 864/2050, and NFPA 72, plus wireless and EMC regulations including FCC Part 15/68, ISED, and EU RED/CE.
• Experience with connected-device cybersecurity and privacy regulations, including the EU Cyber Resilience Act, UK PSTI, ETSI EN 303645, FCC Cyber Trust Mark, or NDAA Section 889.
• Familiarity with carrier certification frameworks such as PTCRB and Verizon, along with the ability to lead complex cross-functional programs.

Nice to have

• Participation in standards bodies or alliances such as Z-Wave Alliance, LoRa Alliance, Connectivity Standards Alliance/Matter, or Bluetooth SIG.
• Experience with video and audio data privacy requirements, including GDPR, US state privacy laws, or BIPA.
