TL;DR
Lead Electrical Engineer (Hardware/Compliance): Designing and validating electrical hardware from concept through mass production with an accent on simulation-driven risk identification and EMC/compliance testing. Focus on creating schematics and system layouts, troubleshooting design failures, and predicting EMI issues before prototyping.
Location: San Jose, California, USA
Salary: $144,000β$200,000 base annually
Company
builds products for enterprise environments, taking concepts through production.
What you will do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to define electrical and compliance design based on product specifications.
- Use simulation tools to identify risk areas and guide electrical design decisions.
- Review and create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts using CAD software.
- Troubleshoot design failures by identifying root causes and developing cost-effective mitigation strategies.
- Perform EMC compliance testing (radiated/conducted emissions, immunity, ESD) and address compliance failures (e.g., filters, ferrites, shielding changes).
- Support pilot builds as needed.
Requirements
- Background in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
- 10+ years of electronics product design experience.
- Experience with simulation and electrical engineering tools (e.g., Cadence Sigrity, ANSYS; diagnostic/troubleshooting equipment such as spectrum analyzer, EMI receiver, VNA, signal generator).
- Knowledge of global regulatory standards and certification protocols (FCC, ISED, CE Mark, KC), including layout review and Korean radio certification and FCC certification.
- Experience with computational modeling tools to predict EMI before physical prototyping (e.g., ANSYS HFSS, CST Studio Suite, FEKO).
- Experience with high-speed standards and EMC testing for interfaces and cables (USB, MIPI, HDMI, DisplayPort, RGMII, PCIe; long cable EMC testing such as USB/HDMI/coaxial).
Culture & Benefits
- Hybrid work model: some roles work remotely while others work on-premises.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage; life insurance and disability coverage.
- 401(k) plans (Traditional and Roth), flexible spending accounts, and employee share purchase plan (ESPP).
- Paid time off, paid holidays, bereavement leave, and paid parental leave.
- Wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, commuter benefits, and employee product discounts.
- Additional benefits include HSA plans, adoption/surrogacy assistance, and access to expert medical opinions.
Hiring process
- Application review for minimum qualifications and experience fit.
- Interview process to evaluate technical expertise in electrical design, simulation, EMC testing, and compliance knowledge.
