Software Development Engineer - ML Ops (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field. U.S. citizenship is required for work supporting U.S. federal government contracts, and the role may require the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Salary: $137,000–$205,400 USD annual base pay for the primary location. Additional U.S. locations: $123,900–$222,000 USD annual base pay.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and deliver scalable features for the ML Runtime platform and production inference microservices.
• Develop frameworks, automation, tooling, and developer-facing products that improve ML platform efficiency and self-service operations.
• Deploy and orchestrate production containers using Kubernetes, Docker, service mesh, ArgoCD, and related technologies.
• Build and operate distributed systems across public clouds such as AWS and GCP, applying capacity management principles.
• Own features end to end, including infrastructure as code, testing, documentation, monitoring, and issue resolution.
• Partner with data scientists, ML engineers, software engineers, and technical leads; participate in rotational on-call support.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; TS/SCI with CI Poly may be required.
• At least 3 years of DevOps experience, including infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipeline development.
• Proficiency in Python, system design, and comprehensive technical documentation.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker for scalable product development and ML runtime environments.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, monitoring, distributed systems, microservices, RESTful services, Git, Jenkins, Terraform, and ArgoCD.

Nice to have

• Machine learning background and experience with enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• Experience leading or mentoring team members and fostering effective collaboration.
