Tech Specialist - Aircraft Power Electronics

Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK; hybrid home/office working options are available where possible. Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions and be prepared to complete the required level of UK National Security Vetting.

What you will do

• Provide senior technical leadership for the architecture, design, verification, and certification support of high-voltage aircraft power electronics.
• Define technical strategy, technology roadmaps, engineering standards, and design rules for power distribution and conversion systems.
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering work covering HVDC/AC conversion, protection, thermal design, EMC, insulation, reliability, and certification risk.
• Lead trade studies, technical reviews, investigations, supplier activities, and customer-facing technical escalations.
• Support programmes involving intelligent PDUs, ice protection controllers, motor drives, high-voltage demonstrators, inverters, and power supplies.
• Mentor engineers and coordinate software, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, test, and supplier teams.

Requirements

• Advanced expertise in high-voltage power electronics design, including conversion, control, sensing, protection, and gate-drive systems.
• Experience with safety-critical development and traceability from safety requirements to verification evidence, including DAL A where required.
• Strong EMC design and compliance experience for high-speed SiC/GaN switching systems, including emissions, susceptibility, filtering, shielding, and layout.
• Experience with simulation, thermal and electromagnetic modelling, validation, HIL, load testing, insulation testing, qualification, and reliability analysis.
• Knowledge of PCB design for high-voltage/high-current systems, HV architectures from 270–800 VDC, motor drives, SSPCs, power supplies, magnetics, sensors, and insulation systems.
• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, significant relevant industry experience, and eligibility to work in the UK and obtain required security clearances.

Nice to have

• Specialisation or postgraduate training in power electronics, motor drives, high-voltage engineering, EMC, high-voltage safety, safety-critical systems, or aerospace electrical systems.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
