New Products Architect (Automotive)

TL;DR

New Products Architect (Automotive): Leading the definition and integration of future drive unit and transmission architectures for next-generation propulsion systems with an accent on system-level integration and cross-functional technical leadership. Focus on balancing performance, efficiency, and cost while transitioning conceptual architectures into production execution.

Location: Warren, Michigan. Hybrid (reporting to office at least 3 times a week). Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee).

What you will do

• Define and engineer drive unit and transmission architectures that meet vehicle-level functional, performance, and efficiency requirements.
• Lead the technical definition of new propulsion concepts during the Balance Architecture (BA) and early development phases.
• Act as the central technical integrator across production release, design, analysis, validation, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Drive system tradeoff decisions involving gears, power transfer, electric machines, thermal management, and controls.
• Translate broad program objectives into structured engineering workstreams and detailed system requirements.
• Collaborate with external suppliers and partners to mature concepts and resolve technical gaps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in drive units, transmissions, or electric/hybrid propulsion systems.
• Demonstrated experience in system architecture and complex cross-functional technical leadership.
• Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee).
• No immigration sponsorship provided (e.g., H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT).
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with drive unit and transmission architecture specifically in BEV, HEV, or PHEV applications.
• Working knowledge of GM engineering processes and standards.
• Experience transitioning architecture and concept work into product execution teams.
