What you will do
- Lead, coach, and develop up to 15 underwriters, including onboarding, training, 1:1s, performance reviews, and development plans.
- Manage underwriting performance by monitoring KPIs, productivity, service levels, attendance, and schedule adherence; report metrics daily/weekly/monthly.
- Ensure underwriting quality and compliance by performing QA reviews, guiding complex scenarios, and applying underwriting policies and investor/regulatory guidelines.
- Drive process improvement by identifying workflow opportunities, documenting best practices, and supporting implementation of new processes and operational initiatives.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Training as a subject matter expert on underwriting processes and guidelines.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience (mortgage or home equity).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership position.
- Ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule based on business volume (including occasional Saturday shifts during peak periods/month-end closing).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for all staff levels.
- Strong PC skills, including Google Sheets and Google Docs.
- Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, work independently, and adapt quickly.
