Backend Infrastructure & Agentic AI Software Engineer (Python/Azure): Building and evolving the GRACE production AI assistant into an ecosystem of autonomous multi-agent systems with an accent on backend infrastructure, LLM orchestration, and production reliability. Focus on designing RAG pipelines, implementing MCP servers, and optimizing token economics for high-scale AI agent workflows.

Location: Remote (US); however, occasional in-person visits to Booz Allen or customer facilities may be required.

Salary: $99,000.00 – $225,000.00 (annualized USD)

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end backend infrastructure on Microsoft Azure, including Azure Functions, API Management, and Container Apps.
• Develop agentic AI systems, including LLM orchestration, multi-model switching, and A2A communication patterns.
• Build and operate RAG pipelines, encompassing document ingestion, vector databases, and semantic search.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and comprehensive production observability.
• Manage token economics and cost-per-query optimization across multiple LLM providers.
• Establish coding standards, perform design reviews, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering building and operating production systems.
• 5+ years of experience in Python and modern backend frameworks with async patterns.
• 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure (Functions, API Management, OpenAI Service).
• 5+ years of experience with containerization, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating MCP servers in production.
• Track record in 0-to-1 product building within startup or early-stage environments.
• Experience with vector databases and embedding pipelines.
• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
