Senior Core Technologies Engineer (Elasticsearch)

Location: Dublin, Ireland; hybrid work with at least three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Own high-impact Elasticsearch work at scale, including index design, shard and partitioning strategy, cluster health, performance tuning, and safe migrations.
• Design and improve core infrastructure across Elasticsearch, MySQL, ingestion pipelines, Rails, and monolithic systems.
• Automate systems, improve observability, and tune production, test, and development datastores.
• Contribute across ideation, prototyping, system design, implementation, and continuous deployment.
• Collaborate with domain experts to shape technical direction and enable product engineers and ML scientists.
• Hire, mentor, and support the career development of engineers while raising standards for reliability and operational excellence.

Requirements

• At least five years of production engineering experience, including distributed-systems design and architecture.
• Strong experience with a major production datastore or search system; Elasticsearch experience is especially relevant.
• Expertise in backend technologies including MySQL, Memcached, and Linux.
• Experience with software engineering practices such as unit testing, object-oriented design, data structures, code reviews, design documentation, and observability.
• Experience leading large, multi-quarter projects and programs, including roadmap definition.
• Understanding of modern web applications and distributed systems, with the ability to explain technical challenges and solutions.

• Experience scaling a SaaS product used by people around the world.
• Previous experience supporting large-scale production systems and delivering significant product or team impact.
