Senior Software Development Engineer (Observability)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; employees may be required to work onsite at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter must be spent in the office or in the field.

Salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD annual base salary for the primary location; additional U.S. locations offer $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, build, and enhance monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing services.
• Develop data capture, collection, ingestion, storage, and visualization services across Kubernetes, OpenStack, and bare-metal environments.
• Build real-time and batch data-processing modules, metrics-ingestion pipelines, alert definitions, and dashboard lifecycle automation.
• Deploy and operate infrastructure components in production while improving observability data quality, integrity, and availability.
• Evaluate open-source and cloud-native technologies and participate in the on-call rotation.
• Support air-gapped U.S. AWS cloud regions and collaborate with software engineering and Federal Cyber Defense teams on platform security, governance, risk, and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience building high-performance data-ingestion software, including work on concurrency, latency, and efficiency.
• Strong software engineering and system-design skills with Java and Python; Go is a plus.
• Experience with data capture and collection systems, API design, reliable data delivery, time-series databases, log management, Kubernetes, Linux, and infrastructure automation with Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.
• Experience with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Grafana, InfluxDB, PromQL, InfluxQL, and Helm.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Poly is preferred.

Nice to have

• DoD 8570/8140 compliance with at least IAT Level II certification, a current Computing Environment credential, and an approved specialty certification such as CompTIA CySA+, GICSP, or CASP+.
• Active TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance.
