Legal Counsel (Contracts)

TL;DR

Legal Counsel (Contracts): Overseeing the drafting, review, and negotiation of diverse commercial agreements with an accent on technology contracts and AI vendor engagement. Focus on streamlining contracting processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with internal business partners to support investment operations.

Location: Must be based in Canada with current work authorization. This role follows a flexible hybrid schedule, currently based in Toronto with a transition to Mississauga in late 2026.

Salary: $182,000 – $212,000 (Total annual cash compensation including base salary and target bonus).

What you will do

• Independently draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements.
• Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure legal documentation meets organizational timelines and policies.
• Identify and implement opportunities to standardize and automate contracting workflows using legal technology.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of legal and procurement policies.
• Manage contract lifecycles and interpret contractual obligations for various business units.
• Assist with supplier sourcing, onboarding, and ad-hoc legal projects.

Requirements

• Must have current work authorization for Canada.
• Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree.
• Licensed as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
• 4+ years of experience in a legal or procurement department of a large commercial organization or law firm.
• Strong proficiency in contract drafting and corporate law.
• Experience with contract lifecycle management software.

Nice to have

• Experience with technology contracts or AI vendors.
• Prior experience in the mutual fund industry.
