Senior Staff Edge Applications Engineer (Hardware & Embedded Lab Lead)

Location: Columbia, Maryland, United States; onsite only

Salary: $139,500–$185,000 annual pay, plus bonus opportunities and commission pay.

What you will do

• Lead the physical Edge AI applications lab, including facilities, equipment, procurement, and project scheduling.
• Build prototype rigs, sensor arrays, 3D-printed mounts, PCBs, and microelectronic setups for customer PoCs and internal R&D.
• Capture, clean, and preprocess high-frequency acoustic, vibration, electrical, and motor-current data.
• Design DSP feature-extraction pipelines using FFTs, spectral analysis, and filtering.
• Deploy optimized and quantized TinyML models on ARM Cortex-M and hirify.global RA, RX, and RL78 microcontrollers.
• Collaborate with customers and product teams, debug edge firmware, and mentor junior lab engineers.

Requirements

• Onsite work in Columbia, Maryland is required; remote work is not available.
• 7–12+ years of hands-on experience in embedded software, physical hardware prototyping, DSP, and real-time edge computing.
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline; a BSEE with extensive lab leadership experience may also be considered.
• Experience with physical fabrication, 3D printing, electrical assembly, PCB bring-up, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD.
• Strong C/C++ skills for constrained microcontrollers, bare-metal or RTOS development, DMA buffers, and SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN drivers.
• Practical experience with DSP for time-series or audio data and deploying quantized ML models directly on microcontrollers.
