Sr System Engineer (Embedded)

Location: 100% onsite in San Jose, California or Morrisville, North Carolina; remote work is not available.

Annual pay range: $109,500–$171,150, with eligibility for bonus opportunities and commission pay.

What you will do

• Own the full development lifecycle of embedded electronic systems from requirements and architecture through production.
• Design power supplies, signal-conditioning circuits, communication interfaces, and mixed-signal systems.
• Create schematics and multilayer PCB layouts in Altium, leading design reviews and ensuring signal integrity, EMC compliance, and thermal performance.
• Implement peripheral drivers and communication stacks for SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, and Ethernet.
• Develop maintainable C/C++ firmware for 32-bit ARM MCUs or MPUs, including memory management, interrupt handling, and low-power functionality.
• Perform board bring-up, debugging, and root-cause analysis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and JTAG/SWD tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional hands-on embedded systems engineering experience.
• Strong C/C++ firmware development skills for 32-bit ARM MCUs or MPUs.
• Knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, power electronics fundamentals, and embedded communication protocols.
• Experience with JTAG/SWD probes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, datasheets, application notes, and reference manuals.
• Strong technical documentation skills and experience with Git.

Nice to have

• Embedded Linux experience, including board bring-up, device tree configuration, kernel or driver development, Yocto, or Ubuntu-based custom distributions.
• Knowledge of Linux IPC, system services, and application development.
• Motor control and power electronics experience, including FOC, BLDC, PMSM, DC-DC converters, motor-driver stages, gate-drive circuits, motor-control libraries, or DSPs.
