Senior Edge AI Applications Engineer (Embedded ML)

Location: Columbia, Maryland, United States; 100% onsite. Remote work is not available.

Annual pay range: $84,000–$105,000, plus eligibility for bonus opportunities and commission pay.

What you will do

• Fabricate physical prototype rigs, custom sensor arrays, and 3D-printed enclosures.
• Instrument motors, HVAC systems, industrial machines, and automotive targets to capture high-frequency time-series data.
• Clean and preprocess accelerometer, acoustic, electrical, and current/voltage datasets.
• Train, quantize, compress, and deploy TinyML models on ARM Cortex-M and hirify.global RA, RX, and RL78 microcontrollers.
• Implement DSP feature extraction, including FFT, spectrograms, windowing, filtering, and time-domain features.
• Develop C/C++ embedded firmware, RTOS drivers, peripheral interfaces, and DMA-based data flows while leading junior lab engineers.

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with embedded systems, hardware prototyping, and deploying edge ML or DSP algorithms on physical hardware.
• Experience with assembly, breadboarding, soldering, 3D printing, schematic reading, JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Fluency in time-series and audio signal processing, including spectral analysis, filtering, and feature extraction using Python or MATLAB.
• Hands-on C/C++ MCU programming, RTOS task management, DMA queues, and low-level peripheral drivers using SPI, I2C, UART, or CAN.
• Practical experience with TinyML frameworks such as TensorFlow Lite Micro, CMSIS-NN, or Edge Impulse, including model quantization and compression.
