Mechanical Forensic Engineer (PE)

Location: Must be based in the Great Plains Region (IA, KS, MO, MN) and able to travel for field investigations.

Salary: $100,000 - $160,000

What you will do

• Conduct independent forensic investigations and failure analyses of mechanical systems and building components.
• Perform field inspections of HVAC systems, plumbing, machinery, vehicles, and fire suppression systems.
• Collect, document, and preserve physical evidence from incident scenes.
• Analyze data using engineering principles and forensic methodologies to determine root causes.
• Prepare detailed, scientifically accurate technical reports for legal and insurance audiences.
• Collaborate with clients and legal teams, providing deposition or testimony support as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Demonstrated experience in failure analysis or forensic engineering.
• Must be based in the Great Plains Region (IA, KS, MO, MN).
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to perform physically demanding field work, including lifting up to 35 lbs and working in confined spaces.

Nice to have

• Experience evaluating vehicles.
• Experience with electrical systems or fire investigations.
• Prior testifying or deposition experience.
