Forensic Structural Engineer II

Location: Remote home office in Miami, Fort Myers, or the surrounding Florida area; fieldwork and local, regional, and national travel are required.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus potential nondiscretionary compensation based on billable productivity.

What you will do

• Conduct site inspections to determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural damage.
• Evaluate failure modes and contributing factors related to storms, natural disasters, fires, explosions, accidents, construction or design defects, and foundation movement.
• Develop clear technical conclusions, reports, documentation, and client deliverables.
• Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders while managing expectations and resolving issues.
• Work independently from a home office while collaborating with internal experts and project partners.
• Perform fieldwork in confined spaces and on roofs, carry ladders, operate equipment, and travel as needed, including occasional overnight trips.

Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship or restrictions is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineer license in Florida or eligibility by reciprocity.
• At least 2 years of forensic engineering experience preferred.
• Strong technical writing, report-writing, verbal communication, and client-service skills.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate with cross-functional experts, perform fieldwork, and travel locally, regionally, and nationally.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Expert witness experience.
