Forensic Electrical Engineer

Location: Remote home office, U.S.-based; Houston, TX or Dallas–Fort Worth, TX preferred

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 base salary annually, plus additional nondiscretionary compensation tied to billable productivity.

What you will do

• Conduct field inspections to determine the origin, cause, and extent of electrical failures, fires, explosions, and system malfunctions.
• Investigate and evaluate failures and damage involving electrical systems, components, and devices in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
• Analyze findings and prepare clear, well-supported technical reports and documentation.
• Provide updates to clients, attorneys, insurers, and internal stakeholders while managing expectations.
• Drive investigations through completion independently while collaborating with cross-functional technical experts.
• Perform site assessments in confined spaces, rooftops, and industrial environments, including local, regional, and national travel.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• 5–10 years of experience working with or designing electrical systems.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
• Strong technical writing, verbal communication, client service, and independent-working skills.
• Ability to conduct field investigations, transport equipment, and travel locally, regionally, and nationally, including occasional overnight travel.

Nice to have

• Forensic engineering experience, including investigations of electrical failures, fires, or explosions.
• Expert witness experience, including depositions and trial testimony.
• Additional state licenses or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
• CFEI, CFI, or related certifications, and an NCEES Record.
• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
