Forensic Structural Engineer III

Location: Remote home office in the Columbus, Ohio area; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship or restrictions. The role includes local, regional, and national travel, fieldwork, confined-space and roof inspections, and occasional overnight travel.

Salary: $115,000–$165,000 per year, plus potential nondiscretionary compensation based on billable productivity.

What you will do

• Conduct site inspections to determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural damage from disasters, fires, accidents, defects, and foundation movement.
• Evaluate failure modes and contributing factors through forensic structural analysis.
• Prepare clear, well-supported technical reports, documentation, and client deliverables.
• Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders while managing expectations and closing communication gaps.
• Own projects through resolution, collaborate with internal experts, and ensure work meets applicable standards.
• Contribute to improvements in processes, tools, and customer outcomes.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of forensic engineering experience; 5–10 years is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineer license in Ohio, or eligibility through reciprocity.
• Strong technical writing, report preparation, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship or restrictions.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate with cross-functional experts, perform field inspections, carry ladders, operate equipment, and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Expert witness experience.
