TL;DR
Compartment Integration Design Engineer (Automotive): Integrating vehicle engineering requirements and developing packaging solutions across architecture, design, performance, human factors, and manufacturing with an accent on customer-facing space, visibility, occupant accommodation, and design intent. Focus on solving complex packaging tradeoffs, creating NX models and physical or mathematical evaluations, and driving cross-functional issue resolution throughout early vehicle development.
Location: Warren, Michigan; hybrid work with on-site attendance at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do
- Integrate and balance engineering requirements with Architecture, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, Design, and Manufacturing partners.
- Create and finalize engineering criteria and lead integrated solutions for vehicle packaging issues while protecting design intent.
- Evaluate design alternatives using physical and mathematical models, DFSS methods, and tradeoffs involving cost, mass, timing, assembly, and dimensional variation.
- Ensure package and studio models meet customer-facing targets for spaciousness, visibility, occupant accommodation, storage, cargo, and access.
- Lead cross-functional surface, integration, CIT, and Surface Workgroup meetings; drive issue resolution and escalation.
- Develop NX models, space claims, package solutions, and design surfaces across digital models, clay models, clinic properties, and VR/MR mockups.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 5+ years of experience in a related engineering area.
- Knowledge of engineering theory, automotive design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering specifications.
- Experience with CAD, including Unigraphics/NX.
- Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Must be able to work on-site in Warren, Michigan at least three days per week and must not require GM immigration sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Coursework in statistics, mechanics of materials, vehicle or occupant packaging, or integrated design.
- DFSS Black Belt certification.
