Backend Engineer (Ruby, AI)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain features for Agent Observability across the hirify.global monolith backend and the AI gateway.
• Design, implement, and review scalable GraphQL and REST APIs with clear contracts for frontend clients.
• Collaborate with Product Management, UX, and AI specialists to deliver iterative product enhancements.
• Improve automated testing using RSpec to strengthen reliability and developer feedback loops.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and enhance system resiliency.

Requirements

• Experience building and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails.
• Proficiency in designing REST and GraphQL APIs with a focus on scalability and backward compatibility.
• Strong practical experience using AI tooling on a daily basis.
• SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
• Must be based in Canada.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for an async-first, distributed environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Python backends and/or Vue frontends.
• Experience designing and shipping AI-powered backend features and integrations.
