Staff Mobile Engineer (Android)

What you will do

• Lead technical ownership of the Gateway Android application for a next-generation mobile cardiac telemetry product.
• Drive mobile projects end to end, including product understanding, scope definition, architecture, and production implementation.
• Design reliable long-running mobile functionality covering background execution, foreground services, process death, state restoration, battery optimization, and memory management.
• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews while establishing durable engineering practices for a safety-critical mobile platform.
• Partner with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and influence technical decisions across the organization.

Requirements

• 12+ years of mobile software development experience with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or 8+ years with a master's degree.
• At least 3 years operating at a senior or staff level.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, the Android Jetpack ecosystem, Hilt, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose.
• Production experience with Bluetooth Low Energy on Android.
• Strong knowledge of REST, GraphQL, MQTT, or comparable publish/subscribe technologies.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, design documentation, mentoring, and cross-functional influence.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, healthcare, automotive, or fintech.
• Knowledge of medical device standards and cybersecurity practices, including IEC 62304, ISO 14971, threat modeling, and software bill of materials management.
• Experience with Android Keystore/StrongBox, certificate pinning, mTLS, secure OTA updates, Android Enterprise, kiosk mode, device policy management, or enterprise FOTA.
• Commercial awareness of iOS development with Swift or cross-platform tooling.
