Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Burnaby, BC, Canada; hybrid role with onsite work Tuesday through Thursday each week

Salary: CAD 188,000–235,000 base annually, plus equity and additional compensation components.

What you will do

• Define domain-level technical strategy, roadmap priorities, and architecture for the core transfer experience.
• Lead large-scale launches across customer-facing transfer flows and foundational platform capabilities used by regional and product teams.
• Stay hands-on through system analysis, code reviews, and direct software contributions.
• Improve reliability, observability, security, quality, scalability, and computing cost efficiency.
• Mentor software engineers, lead training sessions, and promote effective use of AI tools.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics, and Operations to resolve architectural and operational challenges.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3+ years in a staff-level role.
• Significant experience building and shipping consumer-facing products at scale across multiple layers of the technology stack.
• Advanced expertise in one or more languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale, including system design, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Experience with design reviews, dependency management, project estimation, stakeholder communication, observability, reliability engineering, and high availability.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
