TL;DR

Power Electronics Engineering Intern (EV): Assisting with electrical engineering design and test projects on electric vehicle prototypes with an accent on power converter sizing and PCB design. Focus on validating motor controllers, performing circuit simulations in LTspice and PLECS, and integrating electrical devices into product designs.

Location: Hybrid (4 days in-office per week) in Garden Grove, CA. Relocation stipend available for those residing more than 50 miles away.

An American commercial electric vehicle company developing a first-of-its-kind EV platform for medium-duty trucks and hybrids.

What you will do

• Size and design power electronics components including inverters, on-board battery chargers, and DC-DC converters for commercial trucks.
• Perform hands-on testing, bring-up, and validation of power converters and motor controllers.
• Develop mixed-signal PCB designs based on IPC and IEC standards.
• Conduct worst-case circuit analysis and simulations using LTspice and PLECS.
• Collaborate with mechanical designers to integrate electrical devices into product designs.
• Write technical reports and present findings at design reviews.

Requirements

• Currently registered in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program focused on Power electronics.
• Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics circuits, power supply design, magnetics, and control theory.
• Working knowledge of high voltage systems in the automotive sector.
• Experience in hands-on electrical fabrication, troubleshooting, and basic PCB layout.
• Experience using data acquisition systems.
• Work authorized in the United States or ability to obtain J-1/F-1 visa.
