TL;DR
Intern, Power Magnetics Engineer (Power Electronics): Support the design, validation, and characterization of magnetic components used in high-efficiency, high-power, medium-voltage converter systems with an accent on performance, efficiency, thermal behavior, and electromagnetic compatibility. Focus on laboratory measurements, analyzing switching waveforms, electromagnetic modeling, and correlating experimental data with simulations.

What you will do
- Support validation and characterization of medium-voltage magnetic components including inductors, transformers, planar magnetics, current sensors, and chokes
- Develop and execute test plans for magnetic performance: inductance, loss, saturation, thermal behavior, insulation
- Perform lab measurements with oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, LCR meters, power analyzers, thermal tools
- Analyze switching waveforms and EMI/EMC in power converter systems
- Assist with electromagnetic modeling, FEA simulations, PCB layout evaluation for parasitics and EMI issues
- Build, assemble prototype magnetics and test fixtures; collect, analyze, document data
- Collaborate with power electronics, mechanical, layout engineers for integration and optimization
Requirements
- Currently pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Strong fundamentals in power electronics, switching converter operation
- Understanding of electromagnetics and magnetic components (inductors, transformers, materials)
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, test equipment
- Experience with circuit simulation (LTspice, PLECS)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in hands-on hardware development environment
Nice to have
- Experience testing/characterizing magnetic components, planar/PCB-integrated magnetics
- Electromagnetic simulation (ANSYS Maxwell, FEMM, COMSOL)
- EMI/EMC fundamentals, filtering; parasitics in high-frequency converters
- Medium-voltage design, magnetic core materials (ferrite, nanocrystalline)
- Insulation coordination, lab instruments (impedance/power analyzers)
- Wide-bandgap devices (SiC, GaN); MATLAB/Python for data analysis
