Hazardous Waste Technician II (Environmental Services)

Location: Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; onsite work at the facility and customer locations with frequent travel and occasional overnight travel up to 15%

Salary: 28.94–38.46 CAD per hour

What you will do

• Execute lab pack projects and safely package hazardous, non-hazardous, universal, and off-specification waste.
• Manage customer-site projects, including waste identification, inventory collection, regulatory documentation, lab packing, and client communication.
• Ensure waste packaging, labeling, container selection, manifests, shipping documentation, and transportation preparation comply with TDG, Ontario regulations, and company procedures.
• Identify reactive or unstable chemicals, coordinate evaluation and sampling, and treat waste using approved materials and procedures.
• Load and unload shipments, evaluate incoming waste streams, and operate forklifts, shredders, hand trucks, and other power tools.
• Support operations and transport teams while training and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–5 years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental services, laboratory operations, chemical handling, or a related industry.
• Valid Class G driver’s licence with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lb, work at heights and in confined spaces, wear a full-face respirator, and work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to comply with OHSA requirements, TDG regulations, Ontario requirements, and company safety procedures.

Nice to have

• Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Technology, or a related field.
• TDG certification and 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Experience with RPRA manifesting systems.
• Previous hazardous waste, environmental services, laboratory, or industrial chemical experience.
