EHS Manager (Energy): Leading and owning the Environment, Health & Safety function across R&D, manufacturing, and field service operations with an accent on regulatory compliance, risk management, and safety culture. Focus on building and managing a high-performing EHS team, establishing site-specific hazard mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA and federal standards in a fast-scaling hardware environment.

Location: On-site in Scotts Valley, CA

What you will do

  • Direct the development of hazard mitigation analyses and safe work procedures for high-voltage labs and manufacturing floors.
  • Lead the field service safety program for technicians commissioning and servicing equipment at customer sites.
  • Oversee EHS inspection programs, arc flash boundary compliance, and corrective action management.
  • Manage hazardous waste programs, chemical inventory, and regulatory reporting under RCRA and California Title 22.
  • Serve as the senior liaison with Cal/OSHA, fire authorities, and environmental agencies.
  • Define and report EHS metrics to executive leadership to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
  • 7+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, R&D, or energy technology.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a people-management or team-lead role.
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8, 29 CFR 1910, NFPA 70E, and RCRA.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop EHS teams in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Effective communication skills to influence cross-functional teams and external regulators.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting energy storage systems (BESS) or high-voltage power electronics.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 855, IEC 62368-1, or UL 9540 standards.
  • Professional certification such as CSP or CHMM.
  • Knowledge of BAAQMD permitting and TRI reporting.
