Infrastructure Engineering Director (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid work arrangement

Salary: $197,000–$246,000 USD annually, with potential bonus and stock compensation.

What you will do

• Own infrastructure strategy and standards across cloud provisioning, observability, disaster recovery, and cost governance.
• Design and evolve resilient AWS, Outposts, Kubernetes, networking, service mesh, and compute platforms.
• Build and scale the infrastructure engineering organization, establish career paths, and mentor engineers.
• Define RTO/RPO targets, SLOs, SLIs, alerting strategies, runbooks, change management, and incident response practices.
• Lead complex production incidents across Kubernetes, networking, DNS, load balancing, service mesh, and cloud services.
• Manage vendors, cloud spend, capacity planning, build-versus-buy decisions, and infrastructure roadmap priorities.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure organizations.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes architecture, operations, scaling, cluster design, workload isolation, and multi-cluster management.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience across VPCs, networking, IAM, EC2, EKS, cost management, and hybrid AWS environments including Outposts.
• Experience establishing operational discipline, disaster recovery, failover testing, resilience improvements, SLOs, SLIs, and alerting strategies.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one modern programming language for scalable tooling and automation.
• Ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, optimize cloud spend, and connect infrastructure constraints to business and customer impact.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kong Mesh, Istio, Linkerd, or Envoy-based service mesh platforms.
• Hands-on AWS Outposts or hybrid cloud infrastructure experience.
• Experience operating infrastructure in regulated industries with strict segmentation, auditability, security, and uptime requirements.
• CNCF Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKS, or CKAD.
• Familiarity with Datadog, Prometheus, and distributed tracing systems.
