Quantum Theorist (Atomic Physics)

Location: Hybrid, with applications considered for the Berkeley, California or Boulder, Colorado offices

Salary: $160,000–$185,000 per year, plus annual bonus and company equity.

Builds quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms for advanced quantum computing applications.

What you will do

• Conduct independent and collaborative theoretical and computational projects focused on neutral-atom quantum computers.
• Develop and operate atomic physics simulations and translate them into maintainable software.
• Model experimental results and develop noise models for quantum hardware.
• Collaborate with experimentalists, quantum engineers, error correction theorists, and AMO theorists.
• Contribute to the design, calibration, characterization, and advancement of neutral-atom quantum computers.
• Write clean, tested, and documented code in Python, Julia, or C++.

Requirements

• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of atomic, molecular, and optical physics.
• Technical expertise in atomic structure, quantum optics, and qubit control.
• Experience with tools such as QutiP, QuantumOptics.jl, or equivalent.
• Published research results and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with version control, unit testing, continuous integration, and documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience working with or modeling Rydberg atoms.
• Experience working in a fast-growing startup with ambiguity and uncertainty.
