TL;DR
Senior Scientist, Quantum Applications (Quantum Computing): Develop and optimize end-to-end quantum algorithms and workflows for computational chemistry, optimization, and machine learning with an accent on trapped-ion quantum computing, customer solutions, and scientific benchmarking. Focus on building hybrid quantum-classical workloads, estimating resources, scaling performance, and delivering publishable solutions for real-world scientific and commercial problems.

Location: Remote, United States. Requires eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology and government-contract work; candidates may need to be U.S. citizens or nationals, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees, or qualify through an applicable license or exception.

Base salary: $145,920–$191,047 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, and optimize quantum algorithms, applications, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Apply quantum computing to computational chemistry, optimization, machine learning, and other scientific and commercial problems.
  • Work with customers and partners to define problems and deliver solutions using trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Benchmark algorithm performance, conduct scaling analysis, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Support scientific discovery and innovation through a cross-functional initiative with the University of Chicago.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in Python and/or C++, with experience using Qiskit or similar quantum SDKs.
  • Hands-on experience developing or optimizing quantum algorithms in computational chemistry, optimization, machine learning, or related areas.
  • Strong foundation in quantum computing and the ability to communicate technical concepts to scientists, engineers, business leaders, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience defining and solving real-world problems collaboratively, including clear technical communication.
  • U.S. work authorization or qualifying export-control authorization is required for applicable technology and government-contract work.

Nice to have

  • Ph.D. in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Customer-facing or partner-facing technical engagement experience.
  • Experience with variational quantum algorithms and hybrid workloads across CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs.
  • Experience with NISQ-era and early fault-tolerant quantum algorithms.
  • Publications, invited talks, open-source repositories, licenses, or patents demonstrating innovative quantum solutions.
