TL;DR

Scientific Database Curator (Structural Biology/3DEM): Curate EMDB and PDB depositions by annotating submissions and extracting relevant biological information with an accent on 3DEM-based protein structure workflows and improving the OneDep deposition system for automation and process development. Focus on high-quality biocuration, domain knowledge contributions, and supporting training and outreach activities.

What you will do

• Provide high-quality curation of new EMDB and PDB data depositions.
• Annotate preliminary EMDB and PDB submissions and extract relevant biological information.
• Improve the OneDep deposition system by contributing domain knowledge and analyses for automation requirement setting and process development.
• Develop training materials and deliver workshops, and participate in outreach activities.

Requirements

• PhD with hands-on experience determining protein structures using 3DEM methods, plus broad knowledge of structure determination workflows.
• Working knowledge of macromolecular structure, ideally with broad knowledge of molecular biology or biochemistry.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the EMDB team and broader wwPDB OneDep teams.
• English: excellent knowledge of English is required for communication with depositors.
• Ability to communicate succinctly.
• Up-to-date knowledge of the 3DEM field and its developments.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of computer scripting or Python programming.
• Knowledge of building and implementing coding solutions.
• Knowledge of transforming user requirements into manageable project goals.
• Knowledge of project management tools (e.g., Jira).
• Knowledge of software version control (e.g., git).
• Knowledge of data engineering and data models.
