SCT/FT Liability Lawyer (Insurance)

Location: Bolton, United Kingdom; hybrid workplace with Bolton as the primary location. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with 35 hours per week.

What you will do

• Handle defended liability and quantum claims for leading UK insurers.
• Review documents, witness and expert evidence, conduct investigations, and prepare reports.
• Manage disclosure, legal research, routine correspondence, and liaison with insurer and lay clients.
• Instruct counsel and experts, draft court documents, pre-action and interim applications, and trial bundles.
• Conduct advocacy by telephone and in person, attend conferences, trials, court appointments, and settlement negotiations.
• Assist with mediation and other ADR while ensuring compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.

Requirements

• Previous litigation experience and knowledge of the disputes handled by the department.
• Degree-level education and/or postgraduate education, preferably in law.
• Ability to prioritise workload, work at pace using initiative, and maintain attention to detail.
• Experience with case management systems and recording time while considering claim profitability and economics.
• Strong critical-thinking and time-management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience handling property insurance claims.
• Knowledge of property liability, breach of contract, negligence, property, and subrogated claims.
